Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior official commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
